Make time to review performance

Looking back over the past 12 months

As 2013 wraps up and I’m sitting here at my local cafe working on “Brand Derek” I’m thinking about the past year and what I’ve accomplished. I changed jobs in June and hit the ground running in my new role as Customer Success & Marketing Director with an Oracle Eloqua Partner in Sydney – Marketing Cube.

The past six months has been amazing. We have a range of amazing clients doing awesome things with the Oracle Eloqua Marketing Cloud. They’re engaging their prospects and customers and others are working with business partners to help drive revenue. One client has a new role as Customer Success Manager, the first time such a role has existed in her business. We’re working closely to see how Eloqua can support her as she begins an education process across the 600+ staff within Australia and New Zealand.

The highlight for me has been the opportunity to take a deep dive into the world of Marketing Automation and be in a position to help our customers get more from the Oracle Eloqua Marketing Cloud. Having worked previously with Oracle CRM On Demand Marketing, I see Eloqua as a far more powerful tool. It’s functionality is much richer and provides far better integration into Oracle CRM On Demand, NetSuite, salesforce.com and Oracle Sales Cloud CRM.

Past behaviour shapes future behaviour

It’s very easy to fall into bad habits and when those habits don’t provide the return you’re looking for, you need to make an effort to change those habits.

For me, this means looking at the performance of my Eloqua campaigns over the past six months and looking at ways to improve them. A focus for me over the coming weeks will be:

  • Careful review using the Eloqua INSIGHTS tool to understand which of our campaigns have performed the best and begin to understand why that’s the case.
  • Our blog (not this blog you’re reading right now) has performed reasonably well, but I think it could perform better. My key metric is visitors, perhaps I need to review that and look at ways we can use the Blog content in other ways. I’ve started to invite business partners to be guest bloggers, that should help spread our reach in 2014.
  • On a personal note, this blog (my personal blog) also needs more attention. I’m using the Christmas period combined with annual leave (vacation time) to beef up the links in the pages and also update previous posts and pages. This article from Business 2 Community is providing me with some ideas.
  • I’ve spent the past few months working on new content Marketing Cube’s website. This is a big task, huge in fact. I’m about 90% of the way there, but the last 10% feels like the first 90% – ahhhh. I hope to wrap that up before mid January.

This list could probably go on and on, but I think I should draw a line here and get to work 🙂
